The article involves a review with a special focus on the relationship existing between involvement of parents and the academic achievement of students at the high school level. The paper comprises a non-experimental research on the effect of parental involvement as captured in the existing literature. The methodology applied by Shute in “A Review of the Relationship between Parental Involvement and Secondary School Students’ Academic Achievement” is varied to ascertain the correlation in the academic achievement against authoritative parenting and coordinated parenting. Although utilizing secondary materials as the predominant source, it echoes parental involvement as an essential ingredient to remedy ills emerging both in educating the children and impacting social development. The correlation analysis reveals that parents have a lesser influence to the academic achievement of their children contrasted to the peer influence. However, the analytic aspect of the article captures the direct parental influence as the essential opportunity that parents should leverage to compensate the disparity placed by peer relationships.
